When an appeal makes it all the way to the Supreme Court, the stakes couldn’t be any higher. In a case involving water rights, the people who stand to gain financially if the ruling goes in their favor will stop at nothing to tip the scales of justice.
That is the premise behind Holding Court, the debut political thriller by former lawyer and media personality Alan Miller of Eagan, Minnesota. When the story gets underway, a Supreme Court Justice on his way to work gets kidnapped, and the police have few clues to go on. Lucky for Justice J.J. Richter, his girlfriend’s daughter, Danni Rose, happens to be dating an investigative reporter for the Washington Post. Thanks to a little luck and his intuition, Mort Ahrens figures out who may be behind the disappearance.
