Author of "Theory of Remainders" Has Two Upcoming Speaking Events
Scott Dominic Carpenter, whose novel, Theory of Remainders appeared on Kirkus Reviews’ Best Books of 2013 list, has a busy couple of weeks ahead.
On Jan. 31st he will speak at an invitation-only event at The American Institute for the Advancement of Forensic Studies in St. Paul, Minn., and on Feb. 4th he will lead the presentation, "France, Trauma & Suspense" at the Barnes & Noble in the Galleria Mall in Edina, Minn. The event begins at 7 p.m. He previewed the events on KFAI Radio's "Write On!" show Jan. 28th.
Set in France, Theory of Remainders follows an American psychiatrist who seeks to unravel the story of his daughter’s disappearance more than a decade ago. Carpenter, who teaches French at Carleton College and has spent several years in France, asserts that there is also a local connection to the story. “I moved back to Minnesota at the time of Jacob Wetterling’s disappearance,” he says, referring to the 1989 disappearance of the St. Joseph boy. “My time here has been marked by that inexhaustible saga, which has for years oscillated between hope and despair.” Although the story he tells in Theory of Remainders is not based on any actual case, Carpenter sought to portray the effect of unresolved trauma.

Publicity Campaign Kicks Off for "Hawaiian Tales: The Girl with Heavenly Eyes"
Hawaiian Tales: The Girl with Heavenly Eyes will be released by Tell Me Press on March 3rd, and the publicity campaign to promote the book is about to kick off. Author Lee A. Jacobus was interviewerd on WICH-AM in Hartford on Jan. 29th and arrangements have already been made for books to be sold at airport bookstores on the West Coast.
Hawaiian Tales: The Girl with Heavenly Eyes is a collection of 14 short stories that look beyond the surface lives of tourists and retirees, natives and transplants, to the joys and mysteries within. Though fictional, each of the stories is based on the people Jacobus met, the places he visited, and the experiences he had both on and off the beaten path.

New Children's Book to Launch Just in Time for "I Love to Read Month"
February is "I Love to Read Month," the perfect time for the launch of the debut book by Words Bright, a new small press focused on bringing out enjoyable and meaningful books to stimulate learning. A New Take on ABCs! S is for Smiling Sunrise by Vick Wadhwa is an ABC book with a twist. Not only does it teach the alphabet, it communicates concepts.

National Attention for COR Retreat During Sugar Awareness Week
What effect does sugar have on your mind, body and emotions? January 20 - 24 was Sugar Awareness Week, a 5-day period of time during which people are challenged to avoid sugar altogether.
Michelle Goldberger, Program Director of COR Retreat, a food addiction recovery program in Wayzata, Minn., hasn't touched sugar for more than nine-years. She shared how she came to the decision to give it up, and the incredible health benefits she has enjoyed during three national radio interviews during Sugar Awareness Week.
