The next public event for St. Louis Park, Minn., author Judy McConnell's debut novel, Dreamhouse, takes place on Sat., June 16 at the Barnes and Noble Booksellers store in Roseville., Minn. The event begins at 2 p.m.
In Dreamhouse, McConnell writes about events she personally experienced during the feminist movement in the 1960s and 70s as seen through the eyes of Radley Gallagher, a young mother caught up in the challenges of raising two young children. “The story is about how that cultural phenomenon impacted this conventional young family in Deephaven, MN. In some ways, the story parallels my life. I lived in that house in Deephaven,” says McConnell, who goes on to describe Dreamhouse as a stark portrayal of the soul-searching dilemma facing a young wife and mother as she confronts head-on the revolutionary changes of the early seventies.
McConnell's book tour for Dreamhouse kicked off on Feb. 10 at the Walker Library in Minneapolis. On Feb. 21, she appeared at Common Good Books in St. Paul. on Mar. 7 she was at Subtext Bookstore, also in St. Paul; and on Mar. 24 she participated in the Rosemount Writers Festival and Book Fair in Rosemount, Minn.
